If you want to get healthier, feel more energetic and vibrant, boost your immunity, think more clearly, and most of all feel a sense of happiness and well-being, I recommend walking for a minimum of 20 minutes a day. Walking is food for your muscles, joints and bones, we are designed to walk but our lives are becoming more and more sedentary.
10 tips to help you get started:
-
Just DO IT!! start today - just 20 minutes out of your day can change your life
- Be relaxed - allow your body to soften as you move and try and FEEL your whole self as one. Notice your breathing.
- Practice thinking happy and positive thoughts - Walking is a great time to process all the things that are going on in your life. Use the time to productively move into a better state. If you catch yourself using walking time thinking negatively about yourself, a situation or someone else, consciously turn it into a positive with some affirmations.
- Indulge in the fact that this is YOU time - to focus on your inner self and to connect with your body.
- Go at the same time each day and make this time a priority.
- Have comfortable shoes and warm layers. If it's raining - put on a raincoat! If it is warm, go barefoot whenever you can - to more fully connect you with the earth. (make sure you are on a safe surface - not sharp stones)
- SMILE as you walk and keep your head up so you see the world around you- this creates even more endorphins that make you feel good!
- Change your route every now and then. Keep it fresh.
- Appreciate what is beautiful. There is beauty everywhere. It all depends on what you focus on. If you live in the inner city - appreciate what is beautiful on your walk. Find the inner city green space - or look notice the architecture.
- Be grateful for the freedom that our legs give us. They are so precious to us - honour them by using them.

Above is an image that shows how much more active our brain becomes after exercise, we are designed to be active and function much better when we are.
If you are struggling to exercise, this is an easy way to start.
Why not try it for a week and feel the difference : )
